## What developers actually build on Workato

Eleven real use cases, from foundational syncs to advanced agent workflows, all buildable from the Workato CLI, in your own tools.

## Build workflows that run in production

Workato is an integration platform that connects thousands of applications, APIs, databases, and AI agents. Whether you're responding to a single event, orchestrating a business process across dozens of systems, or moving large volumes of data, Workato runs the orchestration so you don't have to write code, operate it at scale, manage issues, or maintain it.

Developers use Workato to automate business processes, connect enterprise systems, and bring real applications and data into AI agents. Build inside the Workato platform or entirely from coding agents like Codex or Claude Code, the Workato CLI turns recipes into JSON files you can version in git and push straight to your workspace. Wherever you build, it runs on the same governed platform, with the same audit trail, execution, scaling, and retries underneath.

## How it works

Every automation in Workato starts with a recipe, which is a workflow that combines a trigger with the actions that follow.

Triggers can come from application events, schedules, webhooks, APIs, or external systems. Actions use more than 1,200 pre-built connectors, which you can control by extending them with custom code.

Recipes run in Workato's managed cloud with built-in logging, retries, and observability. You can see what ran, what failed, and why, so the workflows you build are ready for production.

# What you can build

Here are some examples of what's possible with Workato. Some automate a single task. Others coordinate work across multiple systems. All of them are patterns you can adapt for your own environment.

## Foundations

These projects are a starting point, not the finish line. The same building blocks power everything from syncing Shopify orders with NetSuite, routing leads from Meta Ads or Google Ads into Salesforce, and automating store operations, to orchestrating enterprise workflows across HR, finance, IT, and AI agents.

With more than 1,200 pre-built connectors for the tools your business already uses, including Salesforce, SAP, Workday, Slack, Shopify, Snowflake, Google Workspace, and over a thousand more, you can start with a simple workflow and expand it as your needs grow.

### Connect Salesforce and Google Sheets:
Sync Salesforce contacts into Google Sheets with a single workflow.

### Run scheduled jobs

Generate reports, sync data, or run maintenance tasks on a schedule.

### Build an MCP server

Wrap any workflow in a fully managed MCP server and expose it as a tool AI agents, like Claude, can call. Design the tools you need without writing or managing infrastructure, endpoints, or server code.

### Automate your business

Workato isn't limited to software. Trigger workflows from sensors, schedules, or connected devices. For example, automatically create a maintenance ticket when a factory sensor reports a fault.

### Run event operations

Capture Eventbrite registrations, update attendee records, send confirmation emails, and schedule reminders. Keep event operations running without manual work.

## Advanced

Once you've got the fundamentals down, these projects take you further. Connect more systems, build more complex workflows, and put AI to work across real tools and data. They're examples of what's possible, not the limit.

### Connect Salesforce and Asana:
Create Asana projects automatically when new Salesforce opportunities are created. Keep sales and delivery teams working from the same information.

### Respond to real-time events

Build workflows that react as integration events happen from any connection. Receive webhooks, filter requests, and trigger the right actions automatically.

### Extend AI with MCP apps

Add MCP Apps to your MCP servers for rich agent UX in Claude and ChatGPT, enabling rich and interactive experience inside the chatbot you already use.

### Automate community operations

Community groups can manage memberships, renewals, communications, and events through connected workflows that stay in sync over time.

### Build agents in Slack and Teams

Build Genies, Workato-powered Agents, with a role, a set of tools backed by Workato recipes, and grounded in enterprise knowledge bases. Surface them in Slack and Microsoft Teams.

### Promote recipes through CI/CD

Check recipes into git, validate them with the Workato CLI in a pull request, and push approved changes from dev to staging to production. No manual promotion, no drift between environments.
